One-Day Workshop on Python

Summary report on a one-day workshop under the National Mission on Education through ICT (MHRD, Govt. of India), 22nd June 2019. Conducted by the Teaching Learning Centre (ICT), IIT Bombay, hosted by Sreyas Institute of Engineering & Technology (RCID: 1533).

An important initiative has been taken by IIT Bombay and MHRD, Govt. of India to work with engineering colleges in the country to enhance the teaching skills of our faculty colleagues in core engineering and science subjects. Teach One Thousand Teachers program ran successfully earlier by IIT Bombay under the project called ‘Empowerment of Students and Teachers through Synchronous and Asynchronous Instruction,’ various workshops are conducted during the vacation periods in summer and winter.

Participating teachers attend live lectures delivered by IIT faculty at a remote center close to their own college, and attend tutorial and lab sessions conducted in the same centers. The lecture transmission and live interaction take place in distance mode using AVIEW technology through the internet, at selected remote centers across the country.

This initiative is part of the ‘National Mission on Education through ICT,’ which is supported by MHRD. Faculty coordinators are appointed at each remote center to handle the technology infrastructure and other operational logistics. Additionally, for each workshop, there will be a workshop Faculty Coordinator for that subject, who will help in the conduct of labs and tutorials at each center.

Another successful technology developed at IIT Bombay is Spoken Tutorial, using which about 50 lakh students have been trained on various ICT topics. The Spoken Tutorial project is also implemented successfully at IIT Bombay, with funding from NMEICT, MHRD. IIT Bombay currently offer the highly effective Spoken Tutorial based ICT training to a large number of teachers, across the country, through the T10KT methodology.

The Sreyas Institute of Engineering & Technology (RCID: 1533), together with the IIT Bombay, hosted a one day on 22^nd June 2019. The workshop was Coordinatee by Prof. Kannan Moudgalya, Dept. Of Chemical Engineering, IIT Bombay. The event was supported by the National Mission on Education through ICT (MHRD, Govt. of India). The workshop was inaugurated with an opening speech from Prof. Prabhu Ramchandran Co-Principal Investigator, FOSSEE project, welcoming all dignitaries and delegates followed by a keynote address.

Participants from various Engineering colleges across all over India participated in this workshop. In our, Remote Centre a total of 50 faculty members from various engineering colleges participate and they successfully completed the assigned tasks by the workshop coordinators.
